Toy Theatre for iPad Official Launch

The joy on the children's faces as they see their toy theatre creation come alive put a big smile on my face!

I love seeing today's tech-savvy kids gets turned on to old tech interpreted by new tech. A great idea, and hats off to Pollock's Toy Shop for introducing it...

I often wondered what the point of the ipad was, when you could have a smartphone or a laptop computer. It is clear to me now that it was invented so that one can experience the delights of making toy theatre wherever you happen to be quickly and easily.
I do wonder though whether today's kids are missing out on half the pleasure of toy theatre, (the making part).
Once I did a marionette making workshop in a primary school where the teacher of the oldest class in the school discovered for the first time that many of her pupils were not able to tie a simple knot. Also in shadow puppet making workshops I have run, many quite old children had great difficulty with cutting out shapes with a pair of scissors.
I have nothing against technology, but I do not think low-tech skills like these should be lost either.

  2. I have to agree - the old way of doing things has its place and should be valued.
